About: The United States of America (USA) is located in North American continent. It has 50 states, 1 federal district, 5 major self governing territories, and various other possessions. United States is the world’s 3rd largest country by total area and 3rd largest by land area. It is the third most populous country after China and India which hold 1st and 2nd position respectively. The capital of United States is Washington, D.C., with New York City as the largest city. The nine other big metropolitan areas of USA include Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, and San Francisco.
Settlements: It was after the epic journey of Christopher Columbus in 1492, the Spanish, Portuguese and later English, French, and Dutch started exploring this new discovered land. The Europeans slowly and gradually conquered and settled the discovered lands of America which also included USA. After the settlement of Europeans, the rest is history and USA gained its independence in 1776 from Britain.
Nature and Wildlife: The U.S. ecology is rich and diverse. Around 17,000 species of vascular plants in the contiguous United States and Alaska exist, and around 1,800 flowering plant species are found in Hawaii. As per the records, USA is home to 784 bird species, 428 mammal species, 311 reptile species, and 295 amphibian species. There are around 91,000 insect species which have been found as per record. Bald eagle is the symbol of USA, and also national bird and animal. There are around 58 recognised national parks, hundreds of federally managed parks, numerous forests, and wilderness areas.
Tourism: United States boasts of wide range of tourist destinations such as amusement parks, hotels, golf courses, gambling festivals, museums, spas, galleries, historical buildings and landmarks, outdoor recreation, restaurants and sports. USA attracted 77.5 million tourists in the year – 2015.
The major cities in the USA, which attract the tourists from all around the world, are New York, Washington D.C., Boston, San Francisco, and Philadelphia. The major wild life destinations for the tourists are Yellowstone National Park, Smokey Mountains, Grand Canyon etc. As per the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), USA is the one of the most visited countries by the foreigners and ranks among top visited countries in the world.
