About: North American Continent is 3rd largest continent, area wise, on earth. The continent is located  within the Northern Hemisphere and the Western Hemisphere. It has an area of 24,709,000 sq km which is 4.8% of the earth’s surface area and   16.5% of its land  surface area. This continent is bordered to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, by the Arctic Ocean to the north, to the west and south by the Pacific Ocean, and to the southeast by the Caribbean Sea and South America. It consists of 23 independent countries comprising of 7.5% of the world’s population, if nearby islands (Caribbean island) are also included.

Origin: The first people who reached North American continent were during the last glacial period via crossing the Bering land bridge. As per the facts, the Paleo-Indian period is supposed to have lasted until about 10,000 years ago. The Vikings were the next who reached North America. They were north Germanic people and seafaring. The Vikings explored, raided, traded, and settled in the areas of Asia, Europe, and the North Atlantic islands during the period from late 8th to the mid-11th centuries. They journeyed in the sea using sturdy wooden ships and reached as far west as Iceland, Greenland, and Newfoundland. As per findings, it is believed that Leif Erikson had reached to the Island of Newfoundland, Canada in 1000 AD.

History: By 13th century, the central Mexico had become the power centre of the Aztec civilization. The Mayan culture was on the decline and the Aztec Empire had spread over most of Mesoamerica, from Mexico to Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, and northern Costa Rica. The historic voyage undertaken by Christopher Columbus in 1492 changed the chapter of North America and discovery of this continent on paper was written. This historic journey of Christopher was financed by Isabella I and Ferdinand II, Queen and King of Spain. Within a few months of journey, Christopher reached to the Bahamas, and North America was discovered. John Cabot was the next explorer to reach the east coast of what would become Canada in 1497. There were several other explorers who kept exploring the continent for coming years.

Today, the great North America is inhabited by the people from all over the world. The great monuments and structures in North America are symbols of human prosperity and development.
