About: France is one of the most developed nations in European continent, and is also known for being cultural centre of world. France as a nation can broadly be classified into metropolitan France in western Europe, several overseas regions and territories.

Area: 

Metropolitan France: Mediterranean Sea to the North Sea & the English Channel, and from Atlantic Ocean to Rhine

Overseas territories: French Guiana in South America and several islands in the Indian, Pacific and  Atlantic Oceans.

France comprises of 18 integral regions (5 are overseas) accounting to an area of 643,801 square kilometers with its capital as Paris. Paris is the largest city of France and commercial and  main cultural centre.  

Other major cities include Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Lille, Nice and Bordeaux.

Tourism: France is known for being a global centre of art, culture, science, and philosophy. France receives millions of tourists every year, and has been the most visited countries in world for last many years. The figure of 83 million tourists who visited France in the year 2012 is ahead of US (67 million) and China (58 million), which ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Attractions: France has 37 sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage List France is blessed with beautiful destinations including beaches, ski destinations, and rural regions which are famous for their beauty and tranquility. The picturesque and small villages of France are advertised and promoted through the association “Les Plus Beaux Villages de France”. Apart from natural beauties of wilderness, mountains, and rural regions, France features metro cities of high cultural interest, historical places, monuments, etc.

Tourism: The French Riviera in south-east France, after Paris, boasts of more than 10 million tourists a year, is the second ranked tourist attraction in the country. It has 300 days of sunshine per year, 14 ski resorts, 115 km of coastline and beaches, 18 golf courses, and around 3,000 restaurants. Every year, the French Riviera  hosts around 50% of the world’s superyatch fleet.
