About: The Hunter Region, also known as the Hunter Valley, is a region located in New South Wales, Australia. This place is popular for its winery with its history dating back to the early 1800s. The most important cities of Hunter Valley are Newcastle and Lake Macquarie where more than half of the entire population lives. Hunter Region is the second largest producer of wine after Riverina wine region in New South Wales and accounts for around 3% of the total Australia’s wine production.
Apart for being Australia’s oldest wine region, Hunter Region boasts of several other attractions such as bushwalking, festivals, heritages etc.
The tourism attractions include riverboat, swim, paddle, and fishing. One can sail along the Hunter River to wine country and the historic towns of Maitland and Morpeth. One of the attractions is the World Heriatge wilderness; in the Yengo National Park, one can visit ancient Aboriginal rock art on the Finchley Cultural Walk.
Hunter region is two hours’ drive (120 km) north of Sydney. There are flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Gold Coast to Newcastle which is only 50 minutes’ drive away from Hunter Region.
The total area of the Hunter Region is 29,145 sq km. The climate has the characteristic of humid subtropical. During summer the average temperature is regularly above 21 °C and during winter the average temperature is around 14 °C.
March to May is the best time to visit Hunter Region.
