Tungnath is located in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Tungnath trek is nearly 5 km from Chopta, and even though it is a strenuous trek, the grandeur of the mountain scenery makes it all worthwhile. The famous Tungnath temple is set on the crest of a hill, at a height of 3680 mtr above sea-level, and from here one can view the peaks of Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, Nilkanth, Kedardome, Bandarpoonch and some more.
1st day : Rishikesh to Chopta (220 km) road
2nd day : Chopta to Tungnath & Chandrashila, back to Chopta (10 km ) trek
3rd day : back to Rishikesh
The motorhead for Tungnath trek is Chopta, 30 km from Ukhimath, on the Ukhimath-Gopeshwar Road.
Pilgrims and tourists can stay at Chopta in the temporary hotels and make Tungnath trek on that single day. Simple vegetarian food, and some make shift accommodation is generally available.
One other option is to take tents, guide, cook, porters and stay under the sky near Tungnath temple or bugyals around. It shall be a wonderful experience to watch the sky full of stars. The cool breeze crossing your skin and how about a bonfire right beside your staying tents to complete this trek. Tungnath trek has many small bugyals and this trek is not complete unless Chandrashila is also covered, which is further 1 km uphill trek.hotels tungnath
