Sapta Badri Temples
Sapta Badri temples are seven temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the area of Badri Kshetra in Uttarakhand. The Sapta Badri temples are as follows: 1) Badri Vishal or Badrinath 2) Adi Badri 3) Vridha Badri 4) Dhyan Badri 5) Bhavishya Badri 6) Yogdyan Badri 7) and Ardha Badri.
Badri Vishal: Sri Badrinath Dham, the primary Sapta Badri temple, is situated on either banks of the Alaknanda. Standing like twin sentinels over the valley are the Nar and Narain mountains, and far in the distance soars the resplendent Nilkanth peak. Sri Badrinath Temple is in the lap of Narain Parvat on the right bank with Nilkanth in the background. Adi Badri: Adi Badri, one of seven Sapta Badri temples located in a hilly region, is 17 km from Karnaprayag, Chamoli district. The other name of this temple is Helisera according to revenue records. This temple is one of the sixteen temples constructed during late Gupta period. The builder of this temple “Adi Badri” is attributed to Adi Shankar known for promoting Hinduism to every part of India. Vridha Badri: Vridha Badri temple is located in the Animath village (alt. 1380 mtr.) 7 km from the main Joshimath town on the national highway: Rishikesh – Joshimath – Badrinath highway. Dhyan Badri: This temple, Dhyan Badri, including all other Sapt Badri temples are located in Bdri Kshetra. The altitude of the temple is 2135 m and can be reached from Helang Chatti by a 12 km trek. The place finds association with the Urvarishi, son of the King Puranjaya, a descendant of Pandavas who established a Vishnu temple and meditated here. Bavishya Badri: The Bavishya Badri temple (Alt. 2744 mtr.) is located in Niti valley near Joshimath, the most important town near this temple. Yogdhyan Badri: This temple (1829 metres) is located at Pandukeshwar village near Govind Ghat in the district of Chamoli, Uttarakhand. Yogdhyan Badri temple is one of the Sapt Badri temples with Badri Vishal as primary among all. Ardha Badri: This temple is one of the Sapt Badri temples located in the district of Chamoli. The meaning of Ardha Badri in hindi is half Badri. The place is situated along the Joshimath – Tapovan road. The idol is placed at a remote village where one has to trek to reach. The name of the village where this idol is kept is Hera. The idol of this is smaller in comparison to the temples of other Sapt Badri temples. The trek route to this temple is via Subhain.
