Hampta Pass trek

Himanchal Pradesh is very well known for mountains, rivers, meadows and many other natural wonders. In this series, one of the adventure sports is trekking in the wilderness of forests and mountains. One can see the natural beauty spread over miles along the trek. There are hundreds of trek routes and Hampta Pass trek route is one of the most sought after routes among them.

Hampta Pass trek (Altitude – 4270 m), though not a very tough trek, is one of the most beautiful treks among other treks. The grade of this trek is easy and convenient for the trekking enthusiasts. The trek will take you to glacial valleys, green pastures, meadows and many beautiful and scenic places.

The most suitable months for this trek are from May to June and August to October and needs at least 5 days to complete. The trek has the attraction of snow along the route.

The Trek Route Description:

Day 1: Manali to Chika: The trek starts from Jobra which is only one hour drive from Manali.  The journey from Jobra is 3-4 hours trek to Chika, where one can view rocky Himalayan Mountains while moving along Rani River. The maple, oak, alpines and deodar trees beautify the wondrous journey on foot.

Day 2: Chika to Balu – Ka – Gera. The best part of this portion is the beautifully snow clad Dhauladhar Range. It takes around 5 hours to reach Balu – ka – Gera from Chika. In the start of trek, one will notice rocky mountain only to be replaced by full of lush green meadows and colorful flowers till Jwara.

 Day 3: Balu – Ka – Gera to Sheagoru via Hampta Pass: The campsite at Balu – Ka – Gera is mesmerizing. The longest and adventurous trek starts from here, which is around 9 hours long. The trek starts from Balu – Ka – Gera and ends at Sheagoru via Hampta Pass.

Day 4: Sheagoru  to Chatru: The trek is downward in direction and easy from here onwards. The route is  surrounded by huge mountains amidst the Lahaul and Spiti Valley. Chatru is the point where 3 passes merge: Hapmta, Rohtang and the Spiti. From here, one can visit the beautiful Chandrataal Lake, also known as the Moon Lake, which will again be a wonderful experience.

Day 5: Chattru to Manali: This is the last leg of journey and the most enchanting experience along the route is Rohtang Pass while heading back to Manali.

Hampta Pass Weather: The weather can be categorised into cold weather, which seldom crosses 20°C even during summers.

The Temperature Range at Hampta Pass: During summers (May to August) the daytime temperature ranges from 12°C to 20°C and dips around 4°C to -6°C, while the temperature slips down to 11°C to 17°C during day time and 4°C to -6°C during night time during September – October.

How to reach Manali from Delhi: There are direct bus services from Delhi to Manali from Kashmere Gate. The distance between Delhi to Manali is around 548 km. Similarly, there are bus services available from Manali to Delhi. These days the bus tickets can be booked online.
