Known for its enchanting beauty and panoramic views, Chopta is considered to be one of the best known tourist destinations in Uttarakhand. Located at an altitude of 2875 m above msl, this small station has awe-inspiring and jaw-dropping meadows and trees all around the places. Chopta has also been referred to as “Mini Switzerland” due to its surreal landscapes and wilderness. There are several vantage points in Chopta, which showcase the picturesque meadows with green lush trees and mountains in the background. Chopta is a tranquil and laid – back station with almost no population except for professionals involved in tourism.
The timeless beauty of this place is incomparable which the photographs cannot do the justice to this place. The soaring mountains hugged on one side of Chopta are the real treat to the visitors and, of course, one of the mountains takes you to the Chandrashila summit. The surrounding mountains like sentinels would seem like fantasy world shown in adventure movies. This place is still unexploited and raw; thanks to the forest department. Construction activity is not allowed here and even there is no electricity due to restrain in construction activity. Most of the commercial activities are eco-friendly, such as use of solar energy for electricity, temporary staying arrangements etc.
During winters, the place is mostly snow laden and that makes it difficult to reach Chopta sometimes during winters. The winter season starts from mid December to early March in Uttarakhand. Many people visit during this season only to enjoy snow and Himalayan beauty.
